What We Do

The services offered by the Department are free. However, to provide sound legal advice and effective representation, the Department requires comprehensive information, documents, and evidence on cases and witnesses.
Advising Government Ministries, Departments, and State Corporations in all legal matters.
Receiving court documents and correspondence from Government Ministries, Departments, and State Corporations/Agencies.
Representing the national Government in all civil and constitutional matters under the Government Proceedings Act (Cap. 40).
Representing the Government in Arbitrations and Alternative Dispute Resolution including mediation, negotiations, and adjudication.
Promoting respect for the rule of law and the protection of the public interest in all legal proceedings.
Recovering civil debts owed to the Government through legal proceedings and enforcement mechanisms.
Engagement Process
Bring or send your court documents and correspondence to our registry offices for official receipt and recording.
State Counsel reviews the matter, conducts legal research, and prepares a comprehensive legal strategy.
The Department provides professional representation in court or through ADR mechanisms to resolve the matter.
